Using a Hair Straightener to Make Hash? The Rosin Technique
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Is Rosin the Death of Butane?
Cops are having a heck of a time keeping up with the latest techniques in the manufacturing of honey oil. It’s important for us to know what the current trends are. We need to know these new processes because we will, undoubtedly, come across these extraction processes during search warrants or calls for service and have to describe this in court.
Most honey oil is made using solvents like butane, hexane or isopropyl alcohol. The only problem is that cooks are blowing themselves up and lighting themselves on fire at an alarming rate. But, catching on fire isn’t their only worry. Users are worried about the toxins left behind in their product from the butane and other solvents. Solvent extraction is the preferred method of extraction because it produces such a high THC level in their honey oil (some are up to 80-90% THC).
What You Need to Make Rosin
But, a new method is starting to take hold in manufacturing honey oil called the Rosin Technique. A person who goes by SoilGrown on Instagram found that if you add heat while applying pressure to hash (like Kief) you can make honey oil that is only 5-10% less THC than solvent produced honey oil. Ultimately, all you need is
A hair straightener
A bit of parchment paper
A collection tool
Some heat-resistant gloves
There are some enterprising entrepreneurs that have started manufacturing heated presses specifically for honey oil manufacturing. If you run across one of these cases out in the field, please forward any pictures and suspect debriefs so that we can share this information with other officers.
Here is a video of how to make this type of hash oil using a hair straightener:
