Texas National Guard's Cross-Border Shooting Under Investigation by Mexico
Mexican authorities are currently investigating a cross-border shooting incident involving a member of the Texas National Guard. The incident occurred near El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. During a recent press conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed that the investigation aims to determine whether the shooting was related to an attempted assault on migrants or linked to a migrant caravan event. The incident has garnered attention amid criticism of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star, which involves the deployment of state troopers and National Guardsmen to address the ongoing immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Mass Grave in Chihuahua Reveals Probable Cartel Violence Against Migrants
Mexican authorities have discovered a mass grave in the border state of Chihuahua, believed to contain the remains of migrants who were attacked by cartel gunmen in 2021. The investigation was initiated after several bodies were found in a clandestine gravesite near Coyame Sotol, Chihuahua, which is south of the border city of Presidio, Texas. A suspect, identified as Julian "N," also known as El Roque, is in custody; he was arrested in February related to the kidnapping of 13 migrants in September 2021. The Chihuahua Attorney General's Office has completed its search in the area and plans to conduct DNA tests on the remains to identify them. This incident underscores the dangerous and often deadly conditions migrants face at the hands of cartels while attempting to cross the border.
