Ecuador Targets 'El Mayo' Zambada and the Sinaloa Cartel

Image

Ecuador has escalated its crackdown on organized crime by publicly designating the Sinaloa Cartel as a terrorist organization, specifically naming Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada as a primary target. This move is part of Ecuador's broader strategy to combat the drug trafficking routes that heavily involve Colombian and Mexican cartels, particularly in the context of the internal armed conflict the country is addressing. The list of targets also includes notable figures from Colombian insurgent groups and Ecuadorian criminal bands, highlighting the transnational nature of the security threats Ecuador faces. This designation marks a significant policy step, aiming to disrupt the operational capabilities of these cartels by leveraging both national and international law enforcement resources.

Interesting that Ecuador is doing more to stop cartels than the United States.
