Cartel Attack on Mothers Searching for Missing Loved Ones in Sonora
A group of women, part of an organization known as Madres Buscadoras de Sonora (Sonora’s Mothers in Search), was attacked by cartel gunmen while they were searching for clandestine graves to find their missing loved ones. The incident occurred near Hermosillo, in the state of Sonora, an area known to be under the control of factions of the Sinaloa Cartel. Thankfully, the women survived the attack thanks to a police escort that managed to fend off the assailants. The group had received an anonymous tip about a hidden grave where the son of one of their members was reportedly buried. Following the attack, the leader of the group, Ceci Flores Armenta, made an emotional appeal to the cartels, stating they were not looking for justice or to identify the guilty parties but simply wanted to give their lost loved ones a proper burial.
Six Gulf Cartel Members Killed in Shootout with Police in Reynosa
In the border city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, six gunmen from the Gulf Cartel were killed in a confrontation with Tamaulipas state police officers. The city experienced three separate firefights on Tuesday morning, with the deadliest one taking place in the Alfredo Bonfil neighborhood just south of Reynosa. The police were patrolling the area when they were ambushed by the cartel members. The officers successfully repelled the attack, resulting in the death of six gunmen who were wearing body armor with the CDG logo. Earlier in the day, another group of gunmen tried to ambush police forces in the Riveras Del Carmen neighborhood but were thwarted. Authorities also arrested another individual involved in an earlier attack after a car chase. This violent incident underscores the ongoing turf war between rival factions of the Gulf Cartel in the region.
