Liquefied Heroin in Visine Type Bottles: Current Drug Trends
I've been getting a number of calls from officers on the street about heroin being found in Visine bottles (or similar containers) from around the country. This isn't necessarily a new trend. I first came across this trend over 20 years ago during Drug Recognition Expert field certifications in the Mission District of San Francisco. We were running newly minted DRE's through field certs when we came across bottles like this:
Heroin in a Visine Bottle
Why Put Heroin in a Visine Bottle?
What the users are doing is mixing heroin with water and then placing it in the bottle. For those of you with tar heroin, they will put the tar heroin in a prescription pill bottle with a penny, shake vigorously and the tar heroin will turn to powder. Then they will mix it with water and place it into the bottle.
Once in the bottle, the user will snort the liquid to get high. There are reports from the streets of users using the liquid to inject and a few more reports of users putting it in their eyes. However, this is not confirmed. To be honest, putting it in your eye can work, but heroin addicts are less likely to do that route because the high won't be as intense.
