Heroin Pills Hit the Streets
There’s been a great deal of press lately given to a “new” form of heroin hitting the streets. This form of heroin has been in pill form. Essentially, the dealer buys a pill press (look on Amazon for pill presses) and puts heroin in the pill press. The pill press pumps out powdered heroin into a pill that is consumed by the user. Because it is so easy to produce, heroin pills are popular to avoid detection by police.
A Boston area heron user that uses heroin pills said that he had been buying heroin pills since 2005, initially in capsules, though. In capsule form, the dealer only needs gelatin capsules and no pill press. We may be seeing a resurgence in heroin pills because of the number of dealers buying presses to press their own Xanax pills.
The user of the heroin pill does not eat it, however. Heroin is not orally active, at least in reasonable doses. Heroin has the same oral activity as morphine. 60mg heroin oral is equivalent to 60mg morphine. It wouldn't be that unreasonable to take it orally, it just wouldn't be very cost effective. With that said, the user will grind the pill up and either snort it, inject it, or booty bump it.
The amount of cutter in each pill is up to the dealer. Some cutter has included Xanax, acetaminophen, caffeine and diazepam. The pills can also appear as any number of pills. The pill press can be set up to pop out pills that looks like Oxycontin pills, hydrocodone pills, or any other pill you can think of. Usually it is mimicking an opiate pill.
As I have been saying in my classes for some time, you never know what you are getting when you seize something. You may have a pill that has all of the markings of hydrocodone, but in actuality it may be a heroin pill. How many times have you seen a great dope cop (maybe yourself) that has seized a white powder and claimed it to be meth? Then, after testing, you find out it is coke? It has happened to the best of us.
