Fentanyl/Xylazine Combo
In the previous week, a joint report on the sourcing of xylazine was unveiled by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Operating in unison under the umbrella of the Joint Intelligence National Threat Response – El Paso Illicit Drug Lab (Joint INTREPID Laboratory), they delved into the increasing trend of xylazine utilization in the illicit drug market. The investigation by INTREPID validated that xylazine, available in both liquid veterinary formulations and powder form, is employed to adulterate fentanyl. Furthermore, the analysis of seized xylazine showcased distinct chemical markers, aiding in the identification of precursors, synthetic pathways, and potentially aiding in correlating separate incidents.
